How to set up OysterVPN on OpenELEC Kodi

Last Updated: October 6, 2021

Unlike rival platforms like Apple TV or Chromecast, Kodi is completely free and open-source. Kodi (formerly XBMC) is a home media center that allows you to watch movies, listen to music, play games, and manage images. Unfortunately, OysterVPN doesn’t work with Kodi directly.

However, if you want to set up OysterVPN on Kodi with OpenElec, here’s how you can do it.

  1. Start by downloading OysterVPN Config Files for OpenVPN TCP and UDP. Click here to download.
  2. Now click here to download the VPN manager installation file.
  3. Move both the and the unzipped OysterVPN configuration files to your OpenElec device now. However, moving all configuration files is not required.
  4. The OpenElec device will appear in your Workgroup if connected to your local network. So, moving data to OpenElec shareable folders is simple. Alternatively, you can use a USB drive to transfer these data to an OpenElec
  5. Once both files have been moved, open Kodi and go to Add-ons.
  6. And click on Enter Add-on browser.
  7. Now click on “Install from Zip File” (It might display a message indicating that installation from unknown sources has been disabled. If that appears, then go to “Settings“, enable “Unknown Sources“, and select “Yes“.)
  8. Go to the “Install from Zip file” option now.
  9. Navigate to the location of the file.
  10. Choose “Windows network (SMB)” if you move files via Workgroup. If you moved files using multiple methods, they would end up in the “Home folder“.
  11. Once the VPN is installed, go to Adds-on again.
  12. Click on Program add-ons.
  13. Click on VPN Manager.
  14. Go to “Add-on Settings” and then click on Settings.
  15. Select “User-defined import wizard” from the drop-down menu.
  16. Copy your desired server DNS from the OysterVPN server list and paste the copied DNS in the given option.
  17. Enter your OysterVPN Username and Password after importing the configuration files.
  18. Navigate to “VPN Connections“.

Click on “First VPN connection” to connect. (Select the ‘Change or disconnect VPN connection‘ option in the main VPN Manager window to disconnect or change your server location).
