How to fix slow connection issues on Android?

While using OysterVPN, a few variables will prohibit you from receiving high upload and download speeds on your Android device. Here’s what you need to fix slow connection issues on Android:

Switch Protocols

  1. Open the OysterVPN app, then click on Settings.
  2. Go to Advanced, then Protocol.
  3. Now the change of the default protocol can be found here.
  4. Change the Protocol to OpenVPN from Automatic (UDP).
  5. Try the IKEv2 and OpenVPN (TCP) protocols if that doesn’t work.

Try a Different Network

If your current network is causing you troubles regularly, your first move should be to try a different network. Even if you’ve examined your connection without a VPN and are certain everything is alright on your end, it’s still a good idea to go through this step and rule out this as a possible cause of your problems.

Disable IPv6 on your device

IPv6 is a networking protocol used by various Internet networks. Unfortunately, OysterVPN does not currently support IPv6; thus, if you have it on your network, you may experience connectivity troubles.

Remove your router’s parental and security controls.

On your network, certain network providers may have enabled network security mechanisms. Parental controls or a “Safe DNS” feature are the most common examples of such features. This can be accomplished by configuring custom DNS on your router.

To accomplish this, go to your router’s network settings and change the DNS setting to DNS1: 208.67.222.222 DNS2: 208.67.220.220

Switch to a different location

One site may give a more reliable connection than others for various reasons, such as server load or technical issues on the server. To change your location, go to your OysterVPN app Locations page, where you’ll discover a complete list of our servers. Then, check at least a few other servers to see if the problem persists.

Disable any potentially conflicting apps

Some programs on your device may have taken over network control. This can cause problems with your OysterVPN (or other VPN) connection. Other VPNs, firewalls, file-sharing apps, and, most importantly, anti-virus software, are also affected. If you have any of these, turn them off. Then restart your smartphone to see if the connection improves.
